The one I have does not have the S, so it is not particularly rare; they can be bought in coin stores. I forgot how much I paid for this one, but it wasn't exorbitant. The S-VDB penny now sells for at least $2,000. I had an opportunity to buy one a few years ago for $200, and didn't. Who knew that it would appreciate to ten times that value in a few years? Not I. I don't think that the Lincoln pennies with the new obverse have been released yet; at least I haven't seen any. I'm not a big collector; I just have an interest.Father Davidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17004694236214886414noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33812968.post-6004572971522716182009-06-14T17:25:18.866-07:002009-06-14T17:25:18.866-07:00WOW!!! I do believe that there are 2 different wheat pennies in 1909 and the one with the S and the VDB is more valuable.

What a history and a life our money has! I wonder how many people have held that particular penny and under what circumstances. If money could only talk what stories it would tell... sigh!

I didn't know the back of the 2009 penny changed - now I have to go look at my penny!

Thanks so much for you blog!!! :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33812968.post-4363947843230999542009-06-13T17:12:37.344-07:002009-06-13T17:12:37.344-07:00Good for you! The Lincoln cent debuted in 1909, the centennial of Lincoln's birth. A public outcry against having the artist's initials on the coin led to the initials being removed. The Lincoln cent with its "wheatback" design lasted for fifty years; I can still remember when the design was changed in 1959 so that the Lincoln Memorial was placed on the back. The back of the cent has been redesigned again for 2009.Father Davidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17004694236214886414noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33812968.post-42072256354486794662009-06-13T16:12:43.528-07:002009-06-13T16:12:43.528-07:00It has VDM - does that make it year 1909?It has VDM - does that make it year 1909?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
